It’s back…after 20 years of anticipation!

Quick notes

-Toyota has not produced a Supra for the U.S. market since 1998

-Only 1,500 Launch Edition vehicles will hit the streets

-BMW and Toyota began working with each other in 2012

The Supra re-release is one of the most highly anticipated vehicle releases of all time.

Dreams do come true

Auto enthusiasts are happy about the version of one of the most iconic cars of all time. Over the years, there has been a lot of speculation about when and if it would return. Toyota has done its part to keep rumors and hopes alive by releasing several concept cars in the past.

“The 2020 Toyota Supra is a dream come true.”

After nearly 21 years, most people believed a modern version of the beloved Supra would never exist. So for fans waiting for its return, the 2020 Toyota Supra is a dream come true.

A rich history

The Supra debuted in Toyota’s lineup in 1979 as an upgraded version of the popular Celica. Between 1979 and 1986, the vehicle was known as the Celica Supra. It was not until the Supra debuted as a solo model that it became the performance sportscar it is known to be.

In 1987, Toyota released the first turbo model and in 1993, Toyota redesigned the body to give the Supra its uniquely recognizable shape. Additionally, Supra has been competing and dominating the international racing world since the 1980s, even when put up against fierce competitors.

An unlikely partnership

Perhaps this day would never have come if it was not for a partnership German automaker BMW and Toyota entered into back in 2012. Both companies are known for creating beautiful vehicles with exceptional performance. So, this project seems like a match made in heaven.

Toyota takes credit for the vehicle’s styling, but BMW is mostly responsible for what is under the hood. The exterior is reminiscent of previous models and the mechanics practically make the new Supra the BMW Z4’s twin. BMW makes both cars at its production site in Austria.

More affordable than expected

For years, enthusiasts believed the return of the sportscar would bring a big price tag. After all, the vehicle’s exit from markets around the world in the ’90s was due to declining sales over the years thanks to its hefty price.

But the 2020 Toyota Supra price is reasonable, starting at $49,990 MSRP for the standard 3.0-liter. The other two available trims are the 3.0 Premium and the Launch Edition, which start at $53,990 MSRP and $55,250 MSRP, respectively. So, buying one of these cars is not out of reach.

Luxury inside and out

The Supra is known for having swooping silhouettes that command attention everywhere it goes, and the 2020 model is no different.

“Every angle appeals to the senses with a fierce look and curvey lines.”

Automatic high beam LED headlights in the front and dual exhaust tips and a rear diffuser in the back complement the design. Inside, each trim includes leather sport seats and attractive interior carbon fiber details.

Surprising specs and technology

The Toyota Supra 2020 specs do not disappoint. Built with BMW parts, the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine produces 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. It achieves zero to 60 in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph.

Plus, a sport mode kicks the turbocharged engine into high gear for an even more exhilarating ride. The specs are comparable to the 1998 model, but the new vehicle has much more to offer in terms of safety and technology.

“Driver-assist features like lane departure warning and steering assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert give the driver peace of mind on the road.”

Each Supra comes with modern technology. A customizable high-resolution display screen, optional wireless phone charging, and the Supra Command dial that gives the driver access to navigation and multimedia features are standard features.
